About Erin

Erin started her musical journey at the age of seven with Joanne Au. Taking many lessons throughout the years, Erin completed multiple RCM (Royal Music Conservatory) Piano Exams until 2021. She was also encouraged to participate in various musical festivals including Markham Music Festival and North York Music Festival for many years, resulting in various awards for each. Joanne also organized various outreach events for her students, including Erin, to play piano for elderly patients at Mackenzie Hospital and Amica Unionville. Many years concluded with an annual recital in May where Erin would play much of her exam repertoire to parents and students supporting.

In elementary school, Erin started to learn about other instruments like the percussion section as she played it in the concert band. This developed to learning the oboe, guitar, and singing in later years. Erin was also accepted to the Arts Unionville Program at Unionville High School for Piano, which gained her experiences in collaborative playing, accompanying, and playing larger works with her colleagues. Her high school years consisted of much music-making, along with the opportunity to perform in two musicals, recitals, concerts, and collaborations with cross-disciplines like visual arts and dance.

This marked an important time of Erin’s musical career, as she was consistently a member of Music Council, elected to the Student Council of the school, and won various music festival awards from her solo piano playing. She had also recently completed her RCM ARCT Performer’s Exam at this time (with the result of First Class Honours). At graduation, Erin received the Ontario Scholar, the Bob and Lorna Richardson Music Scholarship, the Unionville High School Staff Award, and Student Council President’s Gavel Award. She was accepted to Wilfrid Laurier University, Queen’s University, McMaster University, and the University of Toronto (St. George) for all their music programs, but ultimately decided to stay in the GTA to continue her studies.

At acceptance, Erin was given the University of Toronto Scholar in the Faculty of Music for 2021. She also received the Arthur Edward Redsell Scholarship in 2022 and the Stephanie Ali Memorial Scholarship in 2023. Again, much of her passion led her to positions on the Faculty of Music Undergraduate Association (FMUA) throughout her studies. Still to this day, she is elected as Music Education Director for the 2023-2024 term on the FMUA team. Through her studies was more experience in playing different instruments, singing in a choir, and exploring the aspects of administrative work. Erin is currently in her third year of her undergraduate degree, specializing in Music Education, Classical Piano.

Consistently, Erin continues to teach piano, accompany soloists and choirs, and play in music teams and bands. More recently, many of her jobs consist of administrative work for choirs, event planning, and organization volunteer work. She loves to perform in choir concerts, online recitals, intimate solo recitals, and sing or jam for fun.
